Expression of IL-6 shown by double immunohistochemical staining in human normal pituitary glands. Expression of IL-6 protein is observed in the Golgi field of anterior pituitary cells as a brown color (original magnification, 600 ×). The immunoreactivities of pituitary hormones and S-100 protein are shown as a blue color. IL-6 immunoreactivity was hardly expressed in (A) GH-secreting cells, (B) PRL-secreting cells, (C) TSHβ-secreting cells, and (H) S-100–positive folliculostellate cells. The immunoreactivity was mainly localized (D) in ACTH-secreting cells and in gonadotropin-secreting cells (E, FSHβ; F, LHβ; G, αSU).
