Equal numbers of iEC samples were derived from the apparently healthy resection margin of colon from patients operated for CRC and from colon of UC patients. The mRNA expression levels for any of the markers in iEC from normal colon of CRC patients and UC colon, respectively, did not differ significantly from each other with the exception of MMP7 mRNA. MMP7 mRNA levels were significantly higher (P<0.01) in the iECs from UC patients compared to iEC from the resection margin of CRC patients. MMP7 values for iEC in the Table include data from 10 CRC and 10 UC patients.
