(A) Matrigel plugs supplemented with bFGF were removed from mice after FITC-dextran injection. The vasculature was visualised and photographed using a fluorescent microscope. For animals receiving vehicle only the intact vasculature was clearly visible. (B) For animals receiving 2-MeOE2bisMATE (40 mg kg−1, p.o., daily for 4 days) marked disruption of the vasculature occurred. (C) Studies with tumours derived from MCF-7 cells in nude mice after FITC-dextran injection revealed a well-established vasculature in mice receiving vehicle. (D) For animals receiving 2-MeOE2bisMATE (20 mg kg−1, p.o.) daily for 21 days disruption of tumour vasculature was detected.
