Hypoxic resistance was hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) dependent and unrelated to platinated-DNA adduct formation. Empty vector (EV) and dominant-negative (DN) cells were exposed to oxaliplatin under standard atmospheric or hypoxic conditions, and IC50 values were calculated from SRB assays (A). Total cellular platinum concentrations were determined in control or hypoxic EV and DN cells after oxaliplatin exposure (B). Data are the mean of three experiments ±s.e.
