Reduced median network of cheetah mtDNA control region segments. The area of the circles in the network is a measure of the sequences that are represented in the sphere and this figure is shown in parentheses beside the name of the sample. Sequences in the same circle are identical. The small grey circles represent other possible intermediate or ancestral haplotypes. The mutations that separate the mitotypes are numbered according to Fig. 1. The largest area represented on the network, Aju-01, may represent an ancestral haplotype from which the others evolved.
