Comparison of anti-adhesion performance against mineral crystals on nanohair and flat hydrogel coatings with that on a commercial water pipe with a polyvinylchloride (PVC) surface at a high temperature of 80 °C. (a) After incubation in a flowing mineral solution (for example, CaOx or CaCO3 solution) for 24 h, the nanohair hydrogel coatings show barely any adhered mineral crystal in their SEM images compared with the flat coatings and PVC surfaces. (b) Quantitative analysis reveals that the nanohair hydrogel coatings possess better anti-scaling capability than the other two coatings. Error bars: standard deviation (n=3).
