Quantifying the number of dead cells via the MTT assay. The plots show the number of dead cells for (a) MDA-MB-231 cells and (b) H358 cells. (1) Cells attached on 24-well plates without any hydrogel. Cells attached on temperature-responsive hydrogels that were (2) fully contracted and (3) fully expanded. (4) The expected number of dead cells in the well calculated based on the product of the expected number of live cells and the fractional area of the hydrogel over the bottom area of the well.
