Expression pattern of GLUT-1, but not E-cadherin, is related to diffusion gradients in cancers of the uterine cervix. GLUT-1 expression (purple) shows a gradual increase with increasing distance from the microvessels (brown) in panel (A). Circular areas of low GLUT-1 expression (marked by white dashed lines) can be identified around selected microvessels.
