From: Intracrine androgen biosynthesis in renal cell carcinoma
Increased androgen concentrations and androgen biosynthesis enzymes are found in AR-positive Caki2 tumour xenografts.(A) ELISA for serum and intratumoral testosterone was carried out on serum and tumours collected from the castration study using Caki2. In serum, castration decreased T levels by more than 98%. In tissues, the decrease in T was only ∼36%. In addition, tissue T concentration was approximately eight-fold higher than the serum level. (B) ELISA for intratumoral T and DHT was performed in the tumours. Intratumoral DHT concentration remained relatively unchanged with castration. *statistically significant.
