Native human urothelium showed nuclear localisation of differentiation-associated transcription factors CTCF, FOXA1, GATA3, GRHL2 and PPARĪ³ in all stratified layers. P63 was observed predominantly in basal and intermediate cells. Occasional cells in the urothelium with condensed nuclei that do not label for most transcription factors are consistent, morphologically, with infiltrating lymphocytes
