Aβ-AGE with a special CD profile is more toxic to hippocampal neurons than the authentic Aβ. (a–f) The hippocampal neurons cultured 8 DIV were treated with Aβ or Aβ-AGE for 24 h, then the viability of the neurons was analyzed by using CCK-8 kit (a); the apoptosis rate was examined by flow cytometry (b); the level of tau phosphorylation at Thr231 and Ser396 (c and d) and synaptic proteins (e and f) were analyzed by western blot. Levels of phosphorylated tau and synaptic proteins were normalized, respectively, to Tau-5 and DM1A.
