In this figure, pathways marked in blue indicated the pathways resulting in apoptosis; pathways marked in orange indicated pathways leading to autophagy. Molecules marked red (namely p38 and calcium) indicate the key regulator of PERK's switching role between autophagy and apoptosis during ER stress.
