Morphological evidence of apoptosis induction by BIRD-2. H2171 SCLC cells were untreated (left) or treated for 48 h with 20 μM BIRD-2 (right). Nuclei were then stained with Hoechst 33342, which fluoresces when bound to dsDNA. The nuclei of Scr-treated cells display a normal heterochromatin pattern, while the nuclei of many BIRD-2-treated cells display chromatin condensation and apoptotic bodies typical of cells undergoing apoptosis
