Post-ischemic neurogenesis and angiogenesis are increased in PrP−/− and PrP+/+ mice. (a) Cell proliferation assessed by bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) immunolabeling, (b) neurogenesis evaluated by co-labeling of the immature neuronal marker Dcx and BrdU, (c) neurogenesis determined by co-labeling of the mature neuronal marker NeuN and BrdU and (d) angiogenesis examined by co-labeling of the endothelial marker CD31 and BrdU in the striatum of WT, PrP−/− and PrP+/+ mice exposed to 45 min MCA occlusion followed by 28 days reperfusion.
