Members of the solute carrier (SLC) transporter superfamily control the movement of various substances, including ions, amino acids, lipids and sugars, across biological membranes. SLCs have important roles in diverse physiological processes, and their dysregulation has been linked to many human disorders, such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes and hypertension.
