In this supplement of the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, results are presented from the EURRECA (EURopean micronutrient RECommendations Aligned) Network of Excellence funded by the EU 6th Framework Programme, with the alignment of micronutrient reference values across Europe as the main objective.

The importance of nutrition in public health cannot be overestimated. It has always been crucial for human health, especially as, in present times, the dietary habits of developed countries are directly related to most chronic diseases that cause disability-adjusted life years, premature deaths and increasing health-care costs.
