Effects of AICAR on cardiac P-AMPKα, MEF2A and GLUT4 expression. Male Wistar rats or primary cardiomyocytes were treated with AICAR. The P-AMPKα protein in cardiomyocytes (A), MEF2A mRNA in myocardium (B), GLUT4 mRNA in cardiomyocytes (C) and myocardium (D) were examined by western blotting and RT-PCR, respectively. Data show a representative gel of P-AMPKα protein, MEF2A mRNA and GLUT4 mRNA products, and a bar graph of data quantitated as relative expression (a.u.) normalized by T-AMPK or GAPDH (mean ± SD) (n = 5). **P < 0.01, *P < 0.05 compared with control group.
