(a) The relative distributions (same area under the curve for each distribution) for the poor (PM), intermediate (IM), and extensive (EM) metabolizer phenotypes. Although the mean levels are clearly different, there is important overlap, especially between the IM and EM phenotypes. (b) The same data, but incorporating the prevalence of each of the phenotypes into the figure (area under the distribution represents the proportion of the population with that phenotype).
