Distribution of the number of DNA sequence haplotypes (Hpt) at various sampling levels and FST when habitat fragmentation has occurred recently. Expansion occurred 15 000 generations ago, K=1000 and m1=0.025. Tf (Tr): expansion in a homogeneous landscape with introduction (removal) of fragmentation 10, 100 and 1000 generations before present. No change: fragmentation constant through time (either ρ=1 or ρ=50); ρ=50 corresponds to m2=0.0005. The distributions were estimated from 1000 coalescent simulations in each case.
