Findings were adjusted for cardiovascular risks, such as age, body mass index, 24-h ambulatory blood pressure (systolic), smoking status (current or not), alcohol intake (current or not), prevalence of diabetes mellitus, antihypertensive medication, prevalence of hypercholesterolemia, history of cardiovascular disease and plasma renin activity.
