Myocardial remodeling and pressure unloading-induced reverse remodeling. LVH was detected by significantly increased cardiomyocyte diameter (CD) in the weeks 6 and 12 aortic-banded groups (a, b). However, pressure unloading led to a significant reduction of increased CD, indicating regression of LVH (a, b). Furthermore, while myocardial fibrosis proved to be significantly increased in the aortic-banded week 12 group, pressure unloading effectively inhibited the collagen accumulation in the interstitium (a, c).
