  2. Data are unadjusted mean ± s.d. or medians (interquartile range). Values of serum insulin, values derived from insulin variables and values of serum triglyceride were logarithmically transformed before statistical analysis and their effect sizes (β) are presented as the increase/decrease in percent. All analyses were made using an additive genetic model, adjusted for age, sex and BMI (BMI was adjusted for age and sex). HOMA-IR was calculated as fasting plasma glucose (mmol l−1) multiplied by fasting serum insulin (pmol l−1) and divided by 22.5. BIGTT-SI was calculated as described.47
