Cardiometabolic characteristics of offspring. Body weight (a) was increased in 24-week-old offspring of HFD dams (HFDO). Adipocytes (b) were larger in both 12- and 24-week-old offspring of HFD dams. Epididymal fat pads (c) and insulin (d) were increased in 12- and 24-week-old offspring of HFD dams compared with their respective controls (CO). Systolic blood pressure (e) was significantly increased from week 16 onwards in offspring of HFD dams, whereas diastolic blood pressure (e) was significantly increased in 24-week-old offspring of HFD dams. U46619 pre-constricted arteries from 24-week-old offspring of HFD dams relaxed less to 10 μM acetylcholine compared with control vessels (f), but this was not evident in vessels from 12-week-old offspring of HFD dams.
