Effect of linezolid (LIN), vancomycin (VAN) and daptomycin (DAP) on the phagocytotic activity monocytes. THP-1 cells were incubated with LIN, VAN or DAP in the presence of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as described in Figure 1. Thereafter, monocytes were incubated for 2 h with heat-killed rhodamine-conjugated E. coli and phagocytosis was determined by flow cytometry. The phagocytosis of E. coli by LPS-activated monocytes was defined as 100% (baseline) and the percent change observed in cells treated with LPS+antibiotics was calculated. Data are expressed as mean±s.d. of three independent experiments; *P<0.05.
