Cells were treated with vehicle (0.4% fatty acid free BSA for 4 h) or with sphinganine-1-phosphate (sphinganine-1-P, 1 μM for 2 or 4 h). Densitometric quantification of relative mRNA band intensities normalized to GAPDH from RT-PCR reactions are shown in the bottom panel. Data are presented as means±s.e.m. *P<0.05 vs vehicle 4 h group. (b) Human renal endothelial cells were treated with 1 μm sphinganine-1-phosphate for indicated periods and probed for phosphorylation of anti-apoptotic kinases ERK and Akt and phospho and total HSP27 (representative of five experiments).
