The average expression level of Bmi-1 was slightly higher in tumor tissues than in non-cancerous background liver tissues (13.27 vs 13.07; *P=0.96; left panel). The average expression level of HMGA2 was significantly higher in tumor tissues than in non-cancerous background squamous epithelium (6.05 vs 0.77; **P<0.01; left panel).
