Magnesium deficiency and lymphoma. Simplified projection of how conditions associated with magnesium deficiency could predispose to the development of lymphoma. Proposed mechanisms by which hypomagnesemia might be stimulatory are induction of NF-κB, oxidative stress, increased cytokine production and decreased expression of NKG2D leading to decreased cytotoxicity of NK cells and T lymphocytes and an increase in EBV-positive B cells.
