Mast cell (MC)-related therapeutic targets. Many pharmacological agents have been developed that modulate MC functions. Some drugs block mediator receptors on target cells (
), inhibit MC mediator synthesis (
), block MC activation or mediator release (
), or inhibit MC development and maturation (
). Some drugs may act through more than one mechanism (e.g., Imatinib acts on both MC development and activation). However, new strategies and targets are required, as none of these current drugs are MC specific.
