SIINFEKL feeding suppresses the induction of delayed-type hypersensitivity in vivo. (a) C57BL/6 mice were fed PBS (n=15), SIINFEKL (n=15), or wOVA (n=15) followed by immunization with wOVA in CFA. On day 15, 20 μg of wOVA was injected into the right ear of each mouse, whereas 20 μl of PBS was injected into the left ear. Ear thickness was measured at 24 and 48 h after ear injection. (b) Ear thickness was measured at 24 and 48 h after injection of OVA in recipient mice immunized with wOVA in CFA 24 h after IV injection of 2 × 105 CD8+ cells from PBS-fed (n=8), SIINFEKL-fed (n=10), or wOVA-fed (n=10) mice. (c) Ear thickness was measured at 24 and 48 h after injection of OVA in recipient mice immunized with wOVA in CFA 24 h after IV injection of 1 × 106 CD8-depleted cells from PBS-fed (n=7), SIINFEKL-fed (n=5), or wOVA-fed (n=10) mice. Data are reported as a change in ear thickness (thickness of the right ear (OVA)−thickness of the left ear (PBS)). Data are reported in mm±s.e. *P<0.05, **P<0.01, P<0.001. The results are the combined data from three independent experiments. IV, intravenous; PBS, phosphate-buffered saline; wOVA, whole OVA.
