Correlation between gene amplification and protein expression in breast cancer as determined by chromogenic in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Top left: Almost no TopoIIα protein expression is present. Top right: Large chromogenic in situ hybridization clusters indicate TopoIIα gene amplification in the same patient. Bottom left: strong TopoIIα protein expression is present in 5% of tumor cells. Bottom right: chromogenic in situ hybridization shows less than 5 signals per cell indicating no TopoIIα gene amplification.
