A representative low-power (a; H&E, × 100) photograph shows atypical intermediate sized melanocytes, with a nevoid growth pattern in the dermis. At higher power, (b; H&E × 400), there is a focus of malignant melanocytes within the dermis corresponding to (c; FISH, × 600) 6p chromosomal gains in the malignant cells.
