Representative examples of CD44 (brown)/CD24 (red) and ALDH1 expression in the luminal B, HER2 enriched, and basal-like subtypes of breast cancer. While the luminal B and HER2 enriched subtypes are mainly composed of CD44−/CD24+ cells, the basal-like subtype contains predominantly CD44+/CD24− cells. ALDH1 is expressed in the HER2 enriched and basal-like subtypes, not in the luminal B subtype.
