(b) Vertically oriented nests of melanocytes with clefts between them and the surrounding hyperplastic epidermis. (c) The melanocytes are monomorphous and mitotic figures are absent. (d) A Spitzoid melanoma (G762T) showing asymmetric growth pattern. (e) The melanocytic nests vary markedly in size and shape and focally form sheets. The arrow marks a narrow ulceration of the epidermis. (f) The melanocytes are pleomorphic and display prominent nucleoli. The two arrows point to mitotic figures in the dermis.
