Immunologic features of the tumor microenvironment of invasive lobular carcinoma. (a) An active immune response highlighted by CD45+ lymphocytes is associated with a subset of invasive lobular carcinomas and includes CD8+ T cells, CD20+ B cells, and FoxP3+ regulatory T cells. (b) Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) associated with invasive lobular carcinomas also contains tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, which are found both within the LCIS and around the periphery of the in situ nests.
