Phase contrast (left, PC), GFP fluorescence signal (middle, GFP) and overlays (right, Merge) between phase-contrast (red) and GFP (green) images are shown. The maps of fluorescence profile of cells sorted according to their length are presented in the far right column for wild-type and mapZ mutant cells. The total integrated fluorescence intensity of each cell (y axis) is plotted as a function of its cell length (x axis). Cells are sorted according to increasing cell length from left to right on the later axis. For each fluorescence profile, n indicates the total number of cells analysed. Scale bars on the microscopy images and fluorescence profiles correspond to 2 and 3 μm, respectively.
