Reaction conditions for step 1: Pd(acac)2 (6.1 mg, 0.02 mmol), P(o-tol)3 (244 mg, 0.8 mmol), nBu4NI (1.48 g, 4 mmol), K2CO3 (2.76 g, 20 mmol), piperidine (20 ml, 200 mmol, in three portions), THF (100 ml), room temperature (RT), 64 h. For step 2: 2 (5.0 mmol in 12 ml toluene), Ru-MACHO-BH (29 mg, 0.05 mmol), KOtBu (11.2 mg, 0.1 mmol), toluene (8 ml), H2 (60 bar), 160 °C, 12 h. aGas chromatography yield using iso-octane as internal standard. b 1H NMR yield using tert-butanol as internal standard.
