Principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) of weighted UniFrac similarity illustrating significant differences between total and active communities (a; PERMANOVA; F=19.43, P<0.001), but no significant difference as a result of fertilization on the total community (b) as assessed by the 16S rRNA gene (P>0.67). By contrast there was a significant effect of fertilization on the active community (c) assessed by 16S rRNA (F=7.75, P<0.01). These data derive from samples collected within 1 m of a permanent transect line that bisected two marsh habitats in four marsh creeks and were collected monthly from May to October in 2005, 2006, 2013 and 2014 (N=192).
