The pressure and strain rate are calculated from back-surface velocimetry interferometer system for any reflector measurements (VISAR) from Veloce35. Here the stress wave is configured to reach a peak stress of ∼12 GPa without producing a shock front within the samples. The dynamic peak pressure is maintained for only a few nanoseconds before the stress drops. A soft capture mechanism is critical to preserve the synthesized gold nanostructures.
