Initial (not corrected) and temperature-corrected mean sinking and carbon-specific respiration rates used to estimate microbial z* (Table 1). k estimates were made on the boundary of the on/offshore region and thus only one value is used for fast-sinking particles and one for slow-sinking particles. Applying temperature-corrections decreased sinking rates by up to 40% and k by 65%.
