Addition of one equivalent of B2pin2 to compound 7 provides compound 9, while a similar reaction with two equivalents of B2pin2 provides compound 10. Reaction of 9 or 10 with 4-dimethylaminopyridine provides facile access to the terminal magnesium boryl, compound 11.
