Frontal sections of hearts from Wnt1-Cre/R26R mice with EdnraEGFP/+ heterozygous (Hetero) (a,b,e–g,k–m) or EdnraEGFP/EGFP homozygous (KO; c,d,h–j,n–p) alleles. Wnt1-Cre-labelled cells are detected by staining for β-galactosidase (β-gal) activity (a–d) and immunoreactivity (e–p). Septal branches boxed in a and c are magnified in b (black arrow) and d (asterisks), respectively. Few labelled cells are detected in the dilated septal branch of KO hearts. Co-immunostaining for β-gal (e,h,k,n) and αSMA (f,i,l,o) with merged images (g,j,m,p) shows decreases in Wnt1-Cre-labelled SMCs in the septal branch (e,h) and in the proximal artery (k,n).
