The spectrum of selected single cysteine mutants in the first (a) and third (b) CC region are shown. The numbers given on the upper right indicate the location of the cysteine in BASS sequence. The letters (a–g) given in the parenthesis correspond to the position of these residues in the heptad repeat pattern. Note the band broadening at each ‘a’ and ‘d’ positions in the heptad repeat pattern. Comparison of first and third CC region shows that the first region is tighter reflected by the amplititude of spectra. At positions where the spin can move freely the EPR spectra have a higher amplititude.
