MFM images (9 μm × 4 μm) for a region of nominally exposed Ni in MLC#3, (a) in zero electric field after having applied +200 V while at magnetic remanence, and (b) after subsequently reversing the tip-field. (c) Profiles along coloured lines in (a,b). This feature does not switch electrically. We were unable to perform equivalent tests on the switching feature of Fig. 3 as the sample was destroyed by aggressive electrical testing. Supplementary Fig. S9 shows atomic force microscopy images corresponding to (a,b).
