As mentioned in the Methods, 3HH cannot be resolved during HPLC separation from one of the LB peaks; hence 3HH titres were not plotted for LB cultures in d. The inset in d shows titres for M9 cultures of the two 3HH producing strains MG4 and MG6 and the control strain MG7.
