To quantify levels of dinB, rpoS, ada, yiaG and fbaB mRNAs, quantitative PCR was performed on cells growing in LB and LB supplemented with 1 μg ml⁻¹ of ampicillin. Each point represents the mean±s.e.m. of the ratios of the fold increase relative to the untreated control from three independent experiments.
