(a) Spatiotemporal expression pattern of araf during zebrafish embryogenesis as examined by in situ hybridization at indicated stages. All embryos were in lateral view. (b–e) Altered marker expression patterns in araf morphants. The endodermal markers were examined around midgastrulation stages and shown in dorsal view with anterior to the top (c) while other markers were examined at the shield stage (b,d,e). For mixer and snail1a, lateral views were shown with dorsal to the right; for gata5, chd, gsc, flh, eve1, gata2 and bmp4 at the shield stage, animal views were shown with dorsal to the right. The ratio of affected embryos was indicated below the corresponding image. Scale bar, 200 μm.
