(a) Menthol (1 mM)-evoked currents in HEK293 cells transfected with TRPM8. The coexpression of Pirt increases the current intensity of TRPM8 (black bar, n=19) compared with the control group (white bar, n=15; **P<0.001 two-tailed unpaired Student’s t-test), but the Pirt mutant, with the positively charged amino acids in its C terminus replaced with neutral residues, has no effect (grey bar, n=14). (b) Menthol-evoked currents of TRPM8 with glutathione S-transferase (GST; white bar, n=23) and Pirt GST-C (black bar, n=24).
