Cu doping introduces a number of new defects, as shown in the topograph in a. However, as shown in the dI/dV data in b–f, the distinct BiSe defect is still present. Indeed, it still shows up at different biases depending on its layer, as highlighted by the circled and squared defects. Scale bar in b is 10 nm.
