(a) Horizontal force (Fx) and (b) vertical force (Fz) exerted on a metallic particle in focused plasmonic tweezers at different particle positions. Abscissa represents the distance between the particle centre and the central peak of the SPP virtual probe. All solid curves are theoretical results based on FDTD and MST calculations; the black dots represent experimental data. For all theoretical results, particle diameters are 1 μm, and for all experimental results only particles of diameter 1±0.1 μm were chosen.
