Figure 5

An NCI is formed with PA1 and PA2 with injection at PA1. PBS, polarization beam splitter; HWP, half-wave plate; FR, Faraday rotator; AOM, acousto-optic modulator; FC, fibre coupler; SMF, single mode fibre; P1, P2, P3, pumps for four-wave mixing (4WM); PA1, PA2, 4WM-parametric amplifiers; L1, L2, lenses for 4F-imaging system; PZT, piezo-electric transducers; LO, local oscillator for HD; HD, homodyne detection; D, detector. A conventional MZ interferometer (CI) is formed by flipping in PBS1 and PBS2 on flipping mounts together with corresponding HWPs for minimum change to the optical pathes. Inset: Rb-85 atomic energy level diagram for four-wave mixing. Phase change is introduced through PZT for both the NCI and the CI.
